Subscriber Guidelines

Listletter is a welcoming place. All subscribers – and by extension, all writers – agree to abide by the General Etiquette and the Guidelines.

General Listletter Etiquette

  • Bona fide: Act in good faith, assuming that all people want good things, even if we differ on the particulars of what those things are.

  • Good text: Listletter participants agree to follow basic rules of grammar, including punctuation and capitalization. Exceptions are liberally made for poems and other non-essay texts.

  • Moderation: Participants agree that their work may be edited and fact-checked.

  • Writers agree to avoid proselytizing, trolling, spamming, and posting intentionally triggering content without other redeeming aspects.

  • Readers agree that some content may be triggering, counter to their beliefs, or otherwise unsavory, and that they should – as far as it is possible – avoid taking the opinions of others personally.

Guidelines: San Francisco Bay Area listletter

  1. Write like you'd want to be written to.

  2. Write about anything to do with the San Francisco Bay Area. Share your favorite tips, tell everyone about an upcoming event, spread love for your favorite corner store, ask for help, or pitch your side project/hustle.

  3. When referring to previous issues, indicate the newsletter in question with #number in addition to the author name (if any). For example, “regarding Jane Smith’s claim in issue #302 that in 1967 San Francisco was…”

  4. Feel free to add to an existing discussion, or to introduce new questions or ideas. The choice is yours!

  5. If you want people to be able to reply to you, but don't want to share your email address, get a temporary forwarding email from a free service such as Altmail.

  6. No adult content, no illegal content. If in doubt, leave it out.
